2. From OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001: Why the Change Matters
If your organization previously operated under OHSAS 18001, you already have a useful foundation. There is no need to pretend that your old safety system had no value. However, ISO 45001 introduced a broader management approach and became the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems.

For a company moving from OHSAS 18001 to ISO 45001, I normally recommend a three-step approach: understand the existing system, identify the gaps, and then prioritize the changes that affect actual risk and certification readiness.
This is much more efficient than rewriting every document at once. If a procedure is already useful, keep it where it works. If a process is weak, improve it. If a requirement is missing, add it. That is how I prefer to manage a transition.

There is another benefit that is easy to overlook: less firefighting by management.
When safety responsibilities, inspections, training, emergency procedures and corrective actions are clearly organized, managers do not need to solve the same problem again and again. The system gives the organization a common way to handle recurring issues.
